About Hugsnoslugs

The Call We Get Most

Hugsnoslugs works on garage doors across Long Beach, and the single most common reason people ring us is a door that goes down and comes straight back up. We are on Carson St in the 90810 ZIP.

It is also the call we most often resolve without charging anyone, because a good share of it is a sensor knocked out of line by a bin or a bicycle.

What We Ask First

Three questions, and between them they usually identify the cause:

What are the sensor lights doing? Most openers show a steady light on one and a light that goes out when the beam breaks on the other. A blinking light points at alignment.

Does it close if you hold the wall button down? Holding the button overrides the photo eye protection. If it closes that way, the mechanics are fine and the problem is electrical.

Does it reverse at the bottom or partway down? At the bottom points at sensors or close force. Partway usually means the door is binding, which is a mechanical job.

The Thing We Will Not Do

Bypass the photo eyes.

People ask, usually because a door has been misbehaving for weeks and they want it to just work. Twisting those wires together removes the only automatic protection stopping a closing door on a child or a pet, and it has been required equipment since 1993 for reasons that are documented and grim.

If a door will not close there is a cause, and the cause is nearly always cheaper than people fear.
